ABOUT EKOPOPS

Curious about plastics. Suspicious of the sales pitch.

EKOPOPS is Nicholas Saad’s independent publication about plastics, packaging and emerging materials. The voice has opinions. The factual claims need sources.

How it started

Hi, I’m Nicholas Saad. I grew up in a plastics injection molding factory, and from a young age, I was torn between my fascination with plastics and my desire to protect the environment. As the cannabis industry took off, I thought I’d found a perfect solution: creating truly compostable “doob tubes.” But once I started researching compostable resins, I had a rude awakening—there just weren’t many real options out there. Worse, I discovered a lot of misleading claims and downright false advertising around “biodegradable” products.

Realizing the uphill battle, I decided to shift gears. Instead of manufacturing compostable products right away, I now focus on a blog dedicated to uncovering real breakthroughs in sustainability and compostable packaging. I’m here to cut through the greenwashing, shine a light on genuine solutions, and help move us all toward a future where plastics aren’t at odds with the environment.
