YOUR FIRST FIVE MINUTES

New material. Same demand for evidence.

The plastics aisle is a sustainability pageant. Let’s check what the contestants can actually do.

EKOPOPS covers emerging plastics, bioplastics, packaging and recovery technologies. Start with the question you need answered, then follow the sources behind each guide.

Choose your route

Three distinctions to keep in your pocket

Biobased describes feedstock origin. It does not, by itself, establish biodegradability.

Biodegradable needs a specified material, environment, timescale and measurement. A disappearing fragment is not the whole story.

Compostable relates to defined composting conditions and criteria. Industrial certification does not establish home-compost suitability or local collection.

Go deeper in the library glossary and the European Commission’s material-category overview.

Read the evidence, then the victory speech

Articles distinguish experimental findings, manufacturer claims and project announcements. A successful laboratory trial does not establish an operating factory; a supplier’s statement does not replace independent testing.

Use the evidence checklist to compare claims, and follow each article’s source links. Material corrections are identified in the affected article.
